Some of my fondest childhood memories are looking for crabs on the other side of Dowse's beach in Centerville on the Cape as a kid. I was mesmerized by the side-winding ways of the crabs, and I would chase them into their holes under the rocks. This guy is on 11x14 Fabriano paper. Original photo from Morguefile (Earl53).
Great painting! All the colors in the crab and the strong shadow are wonderful, as is all the negative space ... just like on the beach.
